Shell, WY - - Pretrip Report

Posted by: Jeff Holtgeerts in M&EGeneral on Print PDF

On Saturday, July 18th, five of us will begin our 900 mile drive east to the small town of Shell, WY.  We've been invited by the Shell Community (Presbyterian) Church, pastored Becky Anderson previously from Quilcene Presbyterian, to assist in their summer construction project.  By the time we arrive, we'll be the third team to help out and our job will be to install windows, doors,  and siding on their church addition project.  The original building is over 100 years old and this project will finally bring indoor plumbing to the church.  The outhouse behind the church will no longer be needed.

Our small team is just what the folks at Shell had hoped for.  Previous teams have been larger and they've stayed at nearby campgrounds.  Our smaller numbers will allow us to do homestays with church and community members in the town of just 50 people.  We'll be able to put the practice of church unity into action as we form new relationships within the family of God.  WPC has never sent out an "all men" mission team (which wasn't planned), and we look forward to this new dynamic.  The long car rides that bookend the trip will also be new to our mission experiences.  Please pray for our travel safety and our fellowship together.

We invite you to follow this blog daily during our trip and we hope you consider being part of our next mission trip planned for late October to do hurricane recovery along the Gulf Coast of Texas.
