Committees:

  • Family Ministries

At Westminster Presbyterian Church we believe in taking a Family Ministry approach, where we intentionally try to equip and meet the needs of families. Our desire is to be sensitive to the diverse needs of today's families and walk alongside them in their faith journey. Families come in all shapes and sizes, and WPC is a place where they can belong, feel supported, and find God's healing love and grace. The Family Ministries Committee is an open and affirming place for LGBTQIA+ students and families.

Interested in joining the committee or volunteering with the nursery or youth group? Please contact our Director of Family Ministries Sarah VanderVort at dfm@wpcanacortes.com

  • Adult Ministries

Believing that Christian spiritual development is the way to grow closer to and more like Jesus, the Adult Ministries Committee encourages discipleship for adults at all levels of spiritual growth and provides opportunities in four specific areas: Bible based instruction designed to inspire a deepening of personal faith in Jesus Christ; Small groups established to provide for the mutual edification and fellowship of their members; Retreats and other special events which seek to equip participants for their calling as ministers; and Practical opportunities to engage in outreach and evangelism in the community. Opportunities within these areas include: Adult Sunday School, Adult Retreats, Mid-Week Bible Studies, Special Workshops, a biennial Renewal Weekend, as well as Community Outreach events. • Worship

Worship at Westminster seeks to fulfill the first half of Jesus' Great Commandment, when he said to "love the Lord with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength." The Worship Committee is committed to maintaining and enhancing the worship experiences at Westminster Presbyterian Church—planning for and providing Sunday worship and other special worship services throughout the year to allow us to worship our Lord and Savior as a corporate body. • Facilities

Completed in 1910, the Westminster brick Sanctuary building and surrounding beautiful gardens are well-known landmarks in downtown Anacortes.

The Facilities Committee serves to maintain and enhance the buildings and grounds to better serve both the congregation and the Anacortes community. This includes: maintenance, repair and replacement of equipment, providing office supplies and making sure janitorial needs are met. The Committee welcomes and seeks to accommodate community requests for use of WPC facilities. The committee sponsors weekly volunteer work parties on Tuesdays at 8 am. • Mission and Evangelism

The Mission & Evangelism Committee is responsible for leadership in the planning and implementing of many different facets of "sharing Christ's love in service to others." To that end, we offer a variety of outreach opportunities, including at least one yearly mission trip to serve others both near and far. We support local Anacortes benevolent agencies, especially organizations who are best equipped to offer direct aid to those in need. Interesting in volunteering? • Fellowship and Membership

Encouraged by Scripture and the example of Jesus Christ, the Fellowship & Membership Committee works to invite, include, and inform. Emphasis is placed on welcoming people and extending personal invitations to church events and activities. Contact Committee Co-Chair Clara Morris at willowdrum@hotmail.com

  • Stewardship

As Christians we realize that everything we have is a gift from a loving God. This includes not only our material and financial resources but also our time, talents, and all our other gifts. In gratitude we are free to generously share these gifts in the furtherance of God's Kingdom. It is the role of the Stewardship Committee to remind and encourage church members and friends to live into this reality and facilitate them in using their gifts in the planned ministry of the church. • Human Resources

Among Westminster's most cherished and appreciated resources are our paid staff members, willing volunteers and members of congregation. The Human Resources Committee serves as a steward for all the people at Westminster who engage in acts of ministry.

In an effort to provide a nurturing and safe environment for children and youth, the committee administers the church's Child Abuse Prevention Policy and runs state and national background checks on all individuals working with children and youth. The committee periodically reviews the Human Resources Policies to assure that they promote a positive and equitable work environment and that they are being followed and that they comply with all applicable state and federal laws. • Food To Go

Food to Go is a weekend backpack food program for children in need in the Anacortes School District. Every week we pack bags of supplemental food to help students through the weekend. We provide two breakfasts, two lunch options and nutritious snacks. The bags are distributed to the schools and are sent home with participating students. Packing bags takes place in the church basement. This program is made possible by donations which are only used to purchase food. Donations come from the community.

Please contact Kari Mathis at ftganacortes@gmail.com

  • Dinner at the Brick

Dinner at the Brick is a volunteer program that offers a free meal in the Fellowship Hall every Sunday at 4:30pm. Want to help out and cook? Please contact Jolynn Lucas at dnjlucas@comcast.net

  • Board of Deacons

The Bible teaches that the role of Deacon is one of sympathy, witness, and service after the example of Jesus Christ. To that end, the Deacons at Westminster, minister to those in need, to the sick, to the friendless, and to any who may be in distress both within and beyond the community of faith.

Deacons are elected by the congregation for a three year term of service; they are ordained to the position of Deacons. The Board of Deacons is made of three equal-sized classes—4 beginning new service each year. Deacons are elected from among the church membership; one must be an active member of the church to be considered for the position of Deacon. Each year the Board of Deacons elects a Moderator. • Stephen Ministries

Stephen Ministry is an ecumenical program that teaches and trains interested individuals in a distinctively Christian way of caring. Westminster joined the Stephen Ministry network in 2005.

Stephen Ministers are individuals who have received more than 50 hours of training and who provide one-to-one Christian care to people in the congregation and community who are experiencing grief, loneliness, divorce, hospitalization, disability, job loss, or other life difficulties. Our Stephen Ministers have been trained to listen, care, encourage, provide emotional and spiritual support, pray and walk alongside people who are hurting, facing a crisis or going through tough times.
